Become a Member!

Membership:

Members are the heart and soul of our society! By becoming a member, you join an incredible group of people who value maintaining a seed bank that holds a large quantity of genetically pure, open-pollinated, climate-adapted, ecologically grown seeds that contributes to local food security.

Memberships cost $20 for an individual and $30 for a household.

(Volunteers and Home Growers are eligible for a free membership, subject to Society approval)

Members receive the society's newsletter, which shares updates on the seed bank and the gardens. And they're the first to know about upcoming workshops and events! Members get easy access to seeds, transplants and gardening and seed saving resources! Workshops are free for members

Members play a crucial role in the society's governance, by electing a board of directors and providing direction for the organization through the annual general meeting.

Become a Volunteer!

Volunteers

Volunteers ensure the continued success of the society's goals by working along side the Seed Bank's Coordinator. Volunteers help to maintain the gardens and greenhouses at the Creston College of the Rockies Campus; participating in all aspects of seed growouts. This includes seeding, transplanting, cultivating, harvesting, processing, cleaning, drying and packaging seeds. Volunteers also assist the coordinator with seed variety assessments, data collection, events (plant sales and Seedy Saturdays) and marketing. Regardless of your skills, there's something you can help with!

During the growing season (Spring to Fall) Volunteers usually meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9:30am - noon.

During the Winter season volunteer days are done on an as-needed basis, usually to package seeds for Seedy Saturdays.

A sign up schedule is sent out at the beginning of every month so volunteers can decide how often they want to commit to volunteering, depending on their schedule.

Volunteering is a great opportunity for experienced gardeners to share their skills and knowledge, and is equally amazing for new gardeners to learn more about growing and seed saving.

The volunteers get to meet fellow gardeners, and build community and relationships. Everyone always enjoys laughing and chatting and having an all-round good time, regardless of the tasks at hand.

Become a Home Grower!

Home Growers

Experienced gardeners can become home growers for the Seed Bank. Due to the vast amount of seed varieties held in the seedbank (over 600), we rely on our home growers to grow-out varieties for us each year.

We provide the seed or transplants to our growers each spring. The growers save and return seeds with evaluation forms to the seedbank and in return get to enjoy the excess produce from their plants. Extra support from the coordinator is provided to the growers to ensure a successful seed harvest!
