From a volunteer with the Creston Community Seed Bank Society…

I had some previous experience in gardening when I started volunteering for the Seed Bank Society last spring. It turned out to become a very successful learning curve and I realized you never stop catching up with knowledge. For example, I wasn’t a friend of weeding, however I saw the better results of legumes when the unwanted green was eliminated.

Tomato seeds are a huge and important part of the Seed Bank assets, and we all know that there are lots of varieties on the market for gardeners. What the Creston Seed Bank makes so special is the fact that the members are taking care of growing seeds which are adapted to the valley’s climate and will even get better at surviving heatwaves or cold and wet summers. The CCSBS grows seeds for the specific conditions and needs in the Creston Valley and most of the surplus veggies are donated to the local Food Bank. By the way, not only tomatoes! Susanne S.
